I’m grateful today

For living with honesty now. Before Mr. Ex moved out, I never quite knew if the money that was in the bank was really in the bank, if the bills that were paid were really paid, and if the debt he told me we had was all we had. I may not have a whole lot right now, but at least I know I’m not lying to myself when I tell me what’s in the bank.

It’s good to be grateful.

  1. Wow, that’s just one of the many things about marriage I’ve never thought of — that your husband would lie about the money in the bank.

My mother was married to a spendaholic and she was always stressed out (which may or may not have to do with her getting cancer when I was 15; she passed away when I was 16). Back then, I knew that our stepfather’s spending really worried her, but only now (when I’m about to turn 30 — eek!) do I start grasping just how bad it might have been.

Yet another check on the “reasons to not marry” column.
